ALOHA RADIO EPK

MUSIC

“Live Without packs a punch. It is a great example of bedroom pop turned electropop. The vocal is the star of the show here, with some colourful attention to detail in the vocoder layers, the clever use of delay and reverb chains, and that hint of overdrive automation, particularly in the chorus. The Andy J feature was a nice break, too. Complimented the lead very nicely and he absolutely nails the feature. The single has loads of mainstream appeal.” – Paige R, GNH

“Aloha Radio has broken novel ground in “Live Without”, a direction they hopefully will continue to pursue. Not that their previous work was subpar; the band has always been a leader in the California reggae and ska industry. It’s just nice to hear a talented band deviate from the familiar, all the while staying true to their craft.  Aloha Radio’s sensuous single will have you ravenous for more.Kristy Rose, Top Shelf Music

“With the release of Golden State of Mind, local reggae-rock band Aloha Radio has put on display just how much they’ve grown over the last 18 months. Their latest record still contains the group’s signature upbeat poppy tunes behind Lauren Mulderrig’s catchy vocals, but Golden State of Mind also brings layers of depth and complexity that make it appropriate for more than just an extended smoke session or cheap beer-fueled party.” – Josh Chesler, OC Weekly

“Aloha Radio is the best parts of the music that SUBLIME put on the music map minus that godforsaken song ‘What I Got’.” – Shelia, 16 Clefs

Aloha Radio has evolved into one of Southern California’s most promising up and coming acts. Finding a home in the local reggae scene, Aloha Radio has created an alluring blend of indie-rock and reggae that encompasses all things West Coast.”Mike Patti, The Pier Magazine

“Aloha Radio sounds like what should be playing in most dorm rooms on lazy afternoons.”- Josh Chesler, OC Weekly

BIO

Aloha Radio Newport Beach Press photo by Vivian Lee

Orange County’s Aloha Radio, is like a message you find washed up on the shores of an enchanted seascape. Pull open the cork and you find yourself being serenaded and enticed into a hypnotic topical state, as if you just polished off your third Man Tai. Self described as an indie-rock band with a “tropical twist,” Aloha Radio’s sound uses the full-color wheel of Southern California’s modern soundscape intertwined with lush island infused elements including ukulele, lap steel and even the occasional steel drum.

While the 3 friends’ tastes and backgrounds span an eclectic genre hopping range of musical influence; it’s no secret that they are a product of their environment and growing up amongst the KROQ airwaves dominated by the pop rock reggae/ska infusions of Sublime, No Doubt, 311, and The Dirty Heads had a lasting effect on the trio. While their early years found them drawing from riff driven surf rock and bubbly ukulele chords, their last album Golden State

of Mind is a collection of pop rock reggae infused foot stomping anthems and experimental indie confessionals. With the release of the band’s 2020 summer single Island Time Aloha Radio highlights their softer, quirky side. Dubbed “a perfect dreamy escape” by producer Danny Kalb (Beck, Ben Harper, The Green, Hirie). He continues, “I don’t think there’s really anything out there like this, yet it feels so familiar.”

Island Time is sensual, ethereal, almost like stepping off a jetliner onto tropical Kauaian turf. Soft melodic vocals seduce the listener as lead singer Lauren Mulderrig takes pleasure in smelling “you on my pillow, like an ocean”. In a world so consumed by technology and business affairs, it’s exceedingly difficult to tune out the stimuli to turn up with each other. Mulderrig goes on to admit “I was losing sight of what’s important”, wishing to “ebb and flow” more naturally with someone so deserving. Adding traditional Hawaiian elements to the track, like bent guitar chords and a kettle drum, truly whisks the listener far, far away from any mundane reality.” – Kristy Rose, Top Shelf Music

Since their humble beginnings as a local bar act, Aloha Radio has been nominated for an OC Music Award, named Music Connection Magazine’s Top Live Band 2 years in a row, named OC Weekly’s “Next Reggae-Pop-Rock Band to Watch” and made a number of TV and radio appearances.   They have toured nationally with Pepper, Tribal Seeds, Grammy-nominated Raging Fyah, Fortunate Youth, Grammy nominated Anuhea, The Movement and Katastro among others. They have joined the lineup on festivals such as Doheny Days, Boomshaka Festival, Fiesta Del Sol and One Love Cali Fest.

An unexpected follow up to their carefree hit Island Time; Aloha Radio’s latest single Live Without taps into brooding moody undertones. Bedroom pop turned electro, edm and Post Malone influences abound. A power ballad full of 808’s trap hats & stadium stomps, surfy wet roots & bubbling keys; Live without packs a punch. Also produced by Danny Kalb, Live Without is a storm of desire and desperation. Consisting of a stellar feature provided by Andy J of Katastro, listeners absorb emotionally intricate vocal performances of two perspectives of a crumbling relationship destined to remain unrequited. Live Without ft. Andy J of Katastro is now streaming worldwide on all music platforms. As for Aloha Radio’s 5 song EP to be released in 2021, the contrast between their two lead singles is keeping fans on their toes.
